Miley Cyrus was seriously moved by Ellen Page’s LGBT documentary
Miley Cyrus has been seriously moved by a documentary by Ellen Page about LGBT rights around the world.
The Freeheld star, who came out as a lesbian in 2014, fronts VICE’s new documentary series Gaycation – and travelled to some of the most homophobic places on earth alongside gay best friend Ian Daniel.
Wreckingball star Miley Cyrus took to Instagram to share her emotional response to the series which saw Page confront a policeman bragging about killing gays.
Cyrus wrote: “#gaycation got me like…..”
She added: “This is post a scene where a young Japanese man comes out to his mother….. My heart breaks but is melded back together with hope and optimism for family acceptance.”
In a second post, addressing the documentary makers, she wrote: “[Thank you so much for] showing people all over the world OTHER people all over the world and how different cultures accept or neglect the lgbtq community.”
Page later tweeted: “Thank you @mileycyrus for supporting #gaycation and for all the work you do to help the LGBTQ community”.
After travelling to Brazil and confronting a policeman who brags about shooting gay people,Ellen and her best friend Ian Daniel have gone to Japan.
It isn’t the only time Page confronts a homophobe in the series – she attends a Pride parade in Jamaica despite the threats of violence, and challenges anti-LGBT Republican Ted Cruz, who later called her a “liberal fascist”.
In the latest episode of Viceland’s Gaycation, Page and Daniel check out the nightlife in Japan, as well as exploring some of the anti-LGBT laws and culture.
