Olly Murs says he is ‘20% gay’ following split from girlfriend
The pop singer says he has a lot of gay friends.
Olly Murs has opened up about his sexuality, suggesting that he is “maybe 20%” gay.
The ‘Troublemaker’ singer was responding to a quote by Grimsby star Sacha Baron Cohen, who said he was 31% gay recently.
“I’m probably the same, or maybe 20%,” Murs told The Sun.
“I’ve got a lot of gay friends I get on with really well. I get on with everyone.”
The singer also admitted that he prefers being in a relationship to being single but hasn’t had a date in a long time.
He said: “I don’t like being single, I prefer being in a relationship, so hopefully it won’t be for too long. I haven’t been on a date in ages though.”
Cohen recently quipped about his own sexuality while discussing playing popular gay character Bruno.
“Straight or gay… they’re silly terms because it’s a scale, and everyone is somewhere on the scale.”
He joked: “I’m 23 percent gay. I’ve worked it out, I did the calculations. I’m 23 percent gay.
“There are times I go down to 17, times I go up to 31.
“Everyone’s on that scale somewhere. Sexuality’s like being ‘black’ or ‘white’ – no one’s entirely black or white, unless they’re albino. They’re on a scale.”
Their comments follow a new survey of Americans aged 13-20, which found that only 48% of the age group identify as “exclusively heterosexual”.
Using a scale of zero to six, where zero represented “exclusively heterosexual” and six “exclusively homosexual”, over a third of respondents picked a number other than zero or six.
The survey follows a similar one released in January that revealed woman are more likely to say they are bisexual than men.
