Major fashion agency sign ‘world’s first plus-size’ male model
Zach Miko says he wants to give bigger guys more confidence.
IMG Models has announced an exciting new signing called Zach Miko, who it claims is the world’s first plus size male model.
Introducing their newest addition on their website, IMG described Miko as ‘brawn’ – the dictionary definition of which is “strong” with “well-developed muscles.”
Miko – who is 6’6 and has a 40 inch waist – says he has become something of a poster boy for bigger men who feel good about their bodies and want to look fashionable.
“Being a man of size, I never imagined for a minute that this would be a possible career,” he told BuzzFeed.
He also praised the agency for their policy of “diversity, inclusion, evolution.”
The president of IMG Models Ivan Bart said the agency’s newest signing opens up an important conversation.
“The body positive messaging and size diversity is something that’s relevant and something that continues to be on everybody’s mind,” he told WWD.
“We have to extend the conversation for men.”
He added: “I want every man in America to say, ‘I can do that’ when they see Zach.”
Indeed, Miko said that the response online has been “overwhelmingly positive.”
“We have been told for so long that beauty is this one thing, but times are changing,” he said.
“It’s a new conversation. Beauty comes in every variety. If you want to be a model, go do it.
“Dress up, take pictures, post on your Instagram, tell a story, be proud of who you are right now.
“Put yourself out there. You never know who is watching.”
