Levi’s launches gender-neutral fashion range in aid of Harvey Milk Foundation
Levi’s has launched a gender-neutral pride fashion range, in aid of the Harvey Milk Foundation.
The company launched its new collection of items dedicated to LGBT history ahead of 2016 Pride, in memory of gay rights hero Harvey Milk – who was assassinated in 1978.
The ‘Levi’s x Harvey Milk Foundation Pride 2016 Collection’ includes gender-neutral stonewashed shorts with rainbow embroidered watch pocket and Harvey Milk patches, a T-shirt and tank top featuring a Harvey Milk graphic, and a jacket bearing Milk’s legendary words ‘Hope will never be silent’.
A portion of the proceeds from the collection will go towards the Harvey Milk Foundation, the not-for-profit global organization set up in memory of the activist-turned-politician.
Milk’s nephew Stuart Milk, the president of the Harvey Milk Foundation, said: “It is a simple message, marked by dignity and respect, that we embrace all without exception, and keep alive Uncle Harvey’s promise of equality for all people, everywhere.”
Grant Barth of Levi’s said: “Harvey was a true leader, whose passion was palpable and has expanded the decades since his untimely assassination.
“He brought not only the LGBTQ community forward, but he fought for the visibility of all minorities.”
The range will launch later this month – though pricing is yet to be announced.
It was recently proposed that a street in Salt Lake City near the Mormon church’s headquarters could be named after gay rights hero Harvey Milk.
LGBT rights group Equality Utah announced a proposal to rename 900 South as ‘Harvey Milk Boulevard’ last year.
