Mitt Romney just kind-of-endorsed Ted Cruz for President
It appears that Mitt Romney, who made his very strong feelings on Trump clear last week, has endorsed rival Ted Cruz in the Republican Presidential race.
In a speech earlier this month Romney, who lost to President Obama in the 2012 race, and previously in 2008, warned his party against nominating the Apprentice star as the candidate.
He branded Trump a “phoney” and a “fraud”, suggesting that Trump as President would be dangerous for the Republican party and the US.
Now Romney appears to have sort-of endorsed Cruz, but didn’t actually mention the word ‘endorse’.
He said in a statement: “This week, in the Utah nominating caucus, I will vote for Senator Ted Cruz.
“Today, there is a contest between Trumpism and Republicanism. Through the calculated statements of its leader, Trumpism has become associated with racism, misogyny, bigotry, xenophobia, vulgarity and, most recently, threats and violence. I am repulsed by each and every one of these.
“The only path that remains to nominate a Republican rather than Mr. Trump is to have an open convention. At this stage, the only way we can reach an open convention is for Senator Cruz to be successful in as many of the remaining nominating elections as possible.”
He added: “I like Governor John Kasich. I have campaigned with him. He has a solid record as governor. I would have voted for him in Ohio. But a vote for Governor Kasich in future contests makes it extremely likely that Trumpism would prevail.
“I will vote for Senator Cruz and I encourage others to do so as well, so that we can have an open convention and nominate a Republican,” the statement concluded.
After being slated by former Republican nominee Romney, Trump hit back with a bizarre blowjob joke.
Caitlyn Jenner hit out at media reports that she had endorsed Cruz this week, saying she was a fan, but that she had not officially thrown her weight behind him.
She also said she was surprised she had not heard from Cruz about a trans ambassador role.
Cruz, by no means the worst candidate on LGBT rights, is apparently “proud” to be backed by Linda Harvey of Mission: America, who claims homosexuality is a result of child molestation and demonic possession.
We don’t think she’ll have much in common with Duck Dynasty homophobe Phil Robertson, a regular speaker at Cruz rallies, but Harvey will have plenty of other ‘friends’.
We think she will likely get on like a house on fire with Kevin Swanson, the pastor who shouted that he was “not ashamed” to call for gays to be put to death at a rally minutes before introducing Cruz and warmly embracing him.
Cruz has previously bragged about his endorsements from leading anti-LGBT groups.
Most recently, this week Ted Cruz has landed yet another endorsement from an extreme anti-LGBT preacher who said gays will “will gang rape our culture”.
