Conservative ‘threatened to wave his penis’ at a woman he thought was trans
A conservative lawmaker in Arkansas is under fire ā after he allegedly threatened to wave his penis at a woman he thought was transgenderā¦ but actually wasnāt.
Alderman John La Tour, who sits on the Fayetteville City Council, was the centre of a controversy when he was asked to leave local restaurant Arsagaās.
A Facebook post from a witness alleges: ā[La Tour] assaulted a dear friend in public demanding they choose a gender in a packed restaurant.
āHe demanded she pick a gender declaiming loudly that he couldnāt tell if she was a man or a woman.
āShe is not transgendered and does not in any way present any ambiguity about gender in any way. Sheās a woman.
āHe then explained that he was a man and could prove it by dropping his pants and showing his penis. That is bullying behavior and unacceptable on so many levels.ā
La Tour, who is militantly opposed to LGBT rights, told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette his exact words were: āI am a man and I can prove itā.
He said: āThey just took it exactly the wrong wayā¦ [I] will never resign.ā
āYou can declare youāre a man or youāre a woman, whatever you want to. Iām not going to ask a man to dance with me.ā
In a since-deleted Facebook post, he said: āEveryone who lives in Fayetteville, AR should never eat or treat themselves at any of Cary Arsagaās establishments.I will never go to any of these again.ā
The woman who was targeted, believed to be an employee, says she is āmortifiedā by the attention and does not wish to comment.
A petition calling on him to resign has attracted 2,341 supporters.
