NRA publishes disturbing re-written fairytales where Red Riding Hood carries a rifle
The NRA has published re-imaginings of well-known fairy tales, which include children carrying firearms.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) Family website, includes re-writings of Hansel and Gretel, and Red Riding Hood.
The slightly unnerving versions of the popular cautionary fairytales, written by conservative blogger Amelia Hamilton, see very different outcomes.
They read: “Have you ever wondered what those same fairy tales might sound like if the hapless Red Riding Hoods, Hansels and Gretels had been taught about gun safety and how to use firearms?”
Granny is never eaten up in ‘Little Red Riding Hood Has A Gun’, as the child protagonist skips through the forest “rifle over her shoulder and a basket for her Grandmother in her hands”.
By the time the huntsman arrives, he realises that the child and her grandmother have saved themselves.
In Hansel and Gretel, the siblings “Fortunately… had been taught how safely to use a gun and had been hunting with their parents most of their lives.”
They never get trapped by a gingerbread house, but just shoot their way out of trouble.
The author, described as “a lifelong writer and patriot” has also written the ‘Growing Patriot’ book series – about guns for children.
The Coalition To Stop Gun Violence, responding to the version of the stories, wrote on Facebook that the stories were the product of “degenerate culture that corrupts children and encourages them to take on significant, and unnecessary, risks.”
