Watch: This is the terrifying obstacle course that every LGBT person has to take
A powerful new short aims to depict the ‘obstacle course’ run by LGBT people across the world.
TBWA Paris and Inter-LGBT France banded together to create the short film, which is shot entirely from first person perspective.
Le Parcours by Inter-LGBT
It depicts a young LGBT person who must navigate the dangerous obstacle course of every day life, from dodging bullying in the classroom to navigating ‘spin the bottle’, dealing with parents and finding a job.
The film, titled ‘The Course’ (Le Parcours), was directed by Ben Briand of Moonwalk Films, and debuted ahead of Pride Month in June.
Inter-LGBT France explained the campaign wanted to portray the “frequent discrimination” that LGBT people across the world still suffer, as well as conveying the message that LGBT rights are non-negotiable.
It adds that the film shows “the strength of character and determination” held by the LGBT community, acknowledging the “energy, patience and courage it takes to get up every morning and keep moving despite prejudice and violence”.
Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy recently dropped a controversial pledge to scrap same-sex marriage.
After his left-wing successor Francois Hollande introduced equal marriage in 2013, Mr Sarkozy led a backlash against it – planning to run for President again and repeal the law.
But the Republicans leader backed down earlier this year – noting the thousands of same-sex couples have already tied the knot.
He said: “On reflection, I fear that, given the state of tension and division in French society which led to election method of François Hollande, the solution would be worse than the problem.
“I would not look to legislate again, because the priority should be to unite France. This is a point on which I have evolved.”
