These gay dads went to Mexico to get their babies and now can’t get home
A gay couple who arranged to have three kids through surrogate mothers have ended up stranded in Mexico.
David and Nicky Beard are from New Zealand, and have been going through the lengthy process of having kids through surrogates for four years.
With two mums, the couple were set to collect their triplings, Lachlan, Blake and Kelly, all created using David’s sperm, and donor eggs from Argentina.
But after they arrived in Villahermosa for the births on 1 March and 5 March, the couple realised things weren’t going as they had planned.
The couple were defrauded by a woman they had been using at a Cancun surrogacy agency.
They are now trapped in the country with their three newborns, as the process of moving them out of the country and back to New Zealand is so lengthy.
Because Lachlan was born prematurely, they were billed nearly $80,000 for hospital bills.
Now a friend has started a givealittle page in order to try and cover some of the costs they have incurred.
They have been given $17,000 towards costs, but it is unclear what will become of the new family.
A lawyer will be hired by the Beards in order to attempt to find out what happened with their surrogacy agency.
But that said, the Beards have posted photos of their beautiful new family, and have appealed to New Zealand’s government officials in order to speed up the process.
