Watch: The ballad of looking for love on Grindr
Sometimes in the modern world, hook-up apps can be more effort than they’re worth.
Cabaret ukulele singer and self-confessed Grindr aficionado George Hicks has released a new tribute to the app and its more colourful characters.
The singer’s posh-and-naive ‘alter ego’ Lord Hicks finds himself looking for love on the app – but encountering only men who want to “take him hard from behind”.

He sings: “Lately in the dark I have been lurking – on my smartphone I have been hunting, searching, scouring my little orange screen of glee.
“For a man I have been yearning, my heart it has been burning… where is the one to simply adore me?
“I’ve been using this old Grindr app to find myself a strapping chap, but so far he has simply eluded me.”
The singer told PinkNews: “They always say ‘Write what you know’ – so I decided to put that to the test and distil my experiences of Grindr into a song.
“Lord Hicks is an old-fashioned chap in a modern world and app dating (or cruising!) is something that’s almost inescapable these days.
“Even though he’s an aristo he’s still just trying to find love in the 21st Century. I think it just shows that finding love can be a real grind sometimes…”
Grindr exec Joel Simkhai recently insisted the app is not killing off the gay scene.
He said: “Even before Grindr, I think, sometimes you wouldn’t go out. But today if you go to any gay bar or club, you’ll see many people are using Grindr.”
He added that app users are “still socialising” in bars and clubs “very well”.
Simkhai recently sold 60% of the company to a Chinese gaming giant.
