Taylor Swift makes surprise appearance at GLAAD Awards to present Ruby Rose honour
Pop star Taylor Swift surprised onlookers at the GLAAD Awards in LA last night.
The ‘Bad Blood’ singer appeared at the event in Beverley Hills, in order to present an award to her friend Ruby Rose.
Presenting the Orange is the New Black star with the Stephen F Kolzak award, Swift said: “She tells the world that no one can judge us, and no one can stop us. She is a woman of many talents. She is my friend, Ruby Rose.”
She also tweeted of the event, saying: “My first GLAAD Awards. So happy to present Ruby Rose with the Stephen F Kolzak Award (and watch her make a touching, funny, and poignant speech) then we run into @troyesivan?!?! I love tonight.”
Lilly Wachowski, co-director of the Matrix trilogy made her first public appearance since coming out as trans, as Sense8 was given the Outstanding Drama Series award.
Other winners at the GLAAD Awards, which took place in Los Angeles last night, included Demi Lovato who won the Vanguard award. I Am Cait tied with I am Jazz for the scripted reality section of the awards, and Amazon’s Transparent also took home a gong.
Along with her sister, Lana, Lilly forms part of the Wachowski duo that also created Cloud Atlas and the hit Netflix drama, Sense 8.
Lana transitioned in 2000 and made it public in 2012, when she became an advocate for trans awareness and opened up about the difficulties she faced in the process.
