Gay First Dates star sleeps with women because he ‘hates gay men’
A gay man has caused a stir on the show by saying he would rather be straight than sleep with gay men.
Linford – who is the reigning Mr Leicestershire – met Greek-born Xanthi in a recent addition of the hit TV show.
During the rather awkward date Linford revealed he actually prefers sleeping with lots of women because he wishes he was straight.
“I don’t like gay people,” he told his shocked date.
“I’ve always wanted to be straight, even now I wish I was straight.”
He later admitted that he gets “a buzz” from his mates – a lot of them straight guys – who encourage him to have sex with women.
He also said he avoids gay bars and being friends with other gay people because he gets “hit on too much”.
“What’s wrong with you?” Xanthi responded.
Many viewers felt they had the answer, with some accusing Linford of having “internalised homophobia” and others simply claiming he was “a mess”.
However, Linford is not the first gay contestant to outrage fans of the show in recent weeks.
Daniel May hit headlines again this week after admitting he faked a homophobic assault – “for attention”.
The reality TV wannabe initially caught the public’s attention after making a series of controversial comments during his appearance on the popular Channel 4 dating show.
May faced backlash after claiming he would not “walk down the street with someone that wears high heels,” before criticising camp men.
Last week, he faced further criticism after explaining why he lied about being attacked in the street by two men.
“Unfortunately after my appearance on First Dates two things happened,” he told the magazine.
“One, I started to get loads of attention and I had lots of agents and management companies offering me large sums of money and stupidly I got sucked in fast.
“Before I knew it, people had convinced me these kind of stories get you noticed and was told that all celebrities do it,” he explained.
“The next thing I was in OK Mag, Cosmopolitan, Heat, Daily Mirror and so on. There was no going back and I was deep in a very slippery road.”
First Dates airs Tuesday at 10pm on Channel 4.
