Rihanna has been privately helping a gay fan come out
A young man struggling to come out as gay has found an unlikely source of support in the shape of the superstar.
A gay man ā who wishes to remain anonymous ā has allegedly been supported while coming out by his icon, Rihanna.
The man shared a direct message he shared with the star in which he told her about his struggles.
To his surprise, she replied, telling him: āItās okay to be scared, but itās more important to be who you are!ā
After the man began to tell his friends he was gay, he shared their reaction with the singer and their conversation continued, with Rihanna sending a series of heartfelt replies.
Her latest message reads: āIām so proud of you! Iām glad to see you finally happy with yourself!!
āBeing who you are is the only way.ā
The fan told BuzzFeed that he initially reached out to Rihanna about a month ago, and without her he would never have had the courage to terms with his sexuality.
He went on to say itās been hard for him to come out as a gay black man, but Rihannaās messages have helped him realise that he shouldnāt be ashamed of who he is.
The fan hopes to be fully out of the closet by July when heāll be meeting Rihanna for the first time during her Anti world tour.
Last year, the star spoke out against Indianaās controversial āreligious freedomā law that allowed businesses to refuse to serve gay people.
The āS&Mā singer was performing in Indianapolis as part of the NCAA March Madness Music Fest when she spoke out against the law.
Referring to the stateās new RFRA between songs, Rihanna said: āWhoās feeling these new bulls**t laws that theyāre trying to pass over here?
āI say f**k that s**tā¦ weāre just living our motherf***ing lives, Indiana!ā
The singer also got the crowd to chant: āf**k that s**tā.
