The government once studied the different ‘types’ of gay
The UK government once helped fund a book that identified different “types” of homosexual.
The 1962 book, The Homosexual Society by Richard Hauser, tries to classify gay men… be they a ‘demoralized married man’ or a ‘club and pub prostitute’ or a ‘war queer’.
Aspiring comic Ivan Kirby shared some of the book’s contents on Twitter, adding that it “forms a key part of my stand-up act and will ’till it disintegrates”.

Incredibly, the book was funded by the Home Office at the time.
Asked about the research in 1964 in the House of Lords, late Home Office minister Lord Brooke confirmed that “research grants have been made by the Home Office for studies by Mr Richard Hauser, who published his results in 1962 in a book entitled ‘The Homosexual Society’.”
