Justin Trudeau just totally schooled a room full of journalists about quantum computing
When this sarcastic reporter asked this of Justin Trudeau, he probably didn’t expect this…
The Canadian PM is known for his outspoken support on LGBT issues, having a gender-equal Cabinet and for his immense core strength.
But appearing at Canada’s world renowned Perimeter Institute, on Friday, Trudeau took the press call to a whole new level.
Asked by the reporter to explain quantum computing, Trudeau, who has labelled himself a “geek”, explained the concept with ease.
He started: “Very simply, normal computers work by …”
Going on to say: “Normal computers work, either there’s one power going through a wire or not. It’s one or a zero, they’re binary systems. What quantum states allow for is much more complex information to be encoded into a single bit.”
After being stunned into silence during the speech, the room bursts into rapturous applause, laughter, and a standing ovation.
The PM later added: “Don’t get me going on this or we’ll be here all day. Trust me.”
His liberal approach to politics has secured a strong following – with some neighbouring Americans even recently begging for him to become their next leader recently, in place of presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.
Trudeau has put equality at the heart of his leadership: championing LGBT rights and feminism, appointing a diverse, expert-led gender-balanced cabinet, speaking out against homophobia, and making history by marching at Pride.
