Elton John and Adele among UK’s wealthiest musicians
Sir Elton placed in the top five, while the ‘Hello’ songstress became the country’s richest ever female performer.
Sir Elton John is officially one of the richest musicians in the UK, after finishing fourth on The Sunday Millionaire Musicians List.
The pop legend – who is also among one of the most charitable celebrities in the country – has an estimated wealth of £280million.
The Rocketman singer is thought to have donated an estimated £26.8m to charity last year, mainly through his AIDS Foundation.
Sir Paul McCartney tops the list with a combined wealth of £760 million, followed by Andrew Lloyd-Webber, U2 and Sir Mick Jagger.
Meanwhile, Adele was crowned the UK’s richest female star after doubling her wealth since last year.
According to the List, the pop superstar is said to be worth £85 million following her new album and tour.
The singer, who released album 25 at the end of last year, is thought to have increased her wealth from £35 million to 85 million in just one year.
“Adele is only 27 so I would see her getting in the main list of the richest 1,000 in a couple of years – she is only £15m to £20m away now,” Ian Coxon, editor of the Rich List, told BBC News.
Earlier this year Adele made history for a solo artist when she picked up four Brit awards, winning best female solo artist, Brits global success award, best single for Hello and British album of the year for 25.
Her album 25 has now sold over 15 million copies worldwide.
She recently said she can’t wait to find out if her son has a boyfriend or girlfriend, adding: “I can’t wait to know who his best friends are going to be, who his girlfriend or his boyfriend is going to be or what movies he likes.
“Whatever my kid wants to do or be I will always support him no matter what.”
