Homophobic parents publicly shamed after requesting anti-gay babysitter
The anti-gay parents said they wanted did not want a supporter of the ‘rainbow flag community’ caring for their children.
A babysitting company has shamed a homophobic parent online, after refusing to adhere to their ‘outrageous’ demands.
REACH Kids hires out babysitters for parents across Sydney, often helping out busy families who need their children cared for.
The firm says it prides itself on providing childcare for a wide variety of modern families, while catering to their individual needs.
However, the company said it was shocked by a recent request from a parent who wants to raise their child in a “normal” way.
In a text to the company, a couple asked for a babysitter to look after their three children.
Along with their request, the parents specified that the sitter must fit a certain criteria.
“We have 3 kids ages 3-11. The babysitter will need to be from a Christian background as we are a faith driven household,” the parents wrote.
“We also request that the babysitter supports our teaching of anti gay marriage, and lack of support for the gay/rainbow flag community,” they added.
“We are just asking for a normal person, not one with coloured hair or supporting radical gender theories.
“We want to raise our kids to be normal.”
Alarmed by their “alarming request”, the firm’s owner decided to shame the pair on social media.
“While I can understand wanting a sitter whose religious beliefs align with your own, to ask that the person serving you openly disrespects another group of people is outrageous,” the owner wrote.
“At REACH kids we are incredibly supportive of the diversity within our community,” they add.
“While we recognise not everyone feels the same, we firmly believe in equal rights for all, including the LGBT+ community.
“I have since turned away this customer based on their discriminatory behaviour toward the LGBT+ community.”
Last month, a group of parents pulled their children out of school over LGBT anti-bullying lessons.
