Watch Eamon Holmes label Prince a ‘girl’s artist’ as he criticises icon’s ‘flamboyancy’
The TV host made the comments while hosting This Morning alongside his wife Ruth Langsford.
Eamon Holmes may be about to feel the wrath of Prince fans everywhere – after he claiming there was “a bit of a problem” with the late icon.
Presenting today’s episode of This Morning, TV host said he struggled to relate to the late music icon because of his “flamboyancy”.
Prince, full name Prince Rogers Nelson, was found dead in his Minnesota aged 57.
Discussing his iconic career Holmes said: “I think there was a bit of a problem with Prince. He was more a girls’ artist than a boys’ artist.
“Tim the Floor Manager was just saying to me earlier, we found it hard to relate to him because there was that flamboyancy that you had with David Bowie as well.”
Although Holmes went on to describe the 1999 singer as a “genius”, his comments come at a time when many of Prince’s fans are still struggling to cope with their loss.
By stark contrast, bisexual singer Frank Ocean was praised after writing a moving eulogy to the superstar.
Ocean – who caused waves in the music industry by discussing his past relationship with a man back in 2012 – took to Tumblr to write an impassioned tribute to the Purple Rain Star.
Although Prince was a “straight black man”, Ocean said he inspired him to “feel more comfortable with how [he] identifies sexually.”
Other tributes poured in from celebrities including Madonna who said she was “devastated” by his death.
“He Changed The World!! A True Visionary. What a loss,” she wrote.
Boy George claimed it “the worst day ever” on Twitter, Ellen DeGeneres saying: “Prince was brilliant and larger than life. What a sad day.”
Prince rose to fame in 1982 with his debut album 1999.
The star performed at the 2007 Superbowl, and won seven Grammys, selling more than 100 million records.
