A lot of steamy gay films are leaving Netflix as LGBT cinema collection gets cleaned up
A number of adult-rated gay films are being dropped from Netflix in the UK this month.
The online streaming platform regularly circulates and renews the content it has available in different countries, due to a patchwork of licensing deals and time-limited contracts.
However, TVGuide spotted a trend in the films confirmed to be leaving this month – as Netflix appears to be dropping a number of adult-rated gay films as it cleans up its LGBT cinema collection.
Six LGBT films will be dropped in total – four of which steamy 18-rated films featuring steamy gay sex scenes.
‘Eating Out: Drama Camp’, ‘Mixed Kebab’, ‘Angels of Sex’ and ‘Our Paradise’ are all set to leave the platform.
‘Role/Play’ and ‘@Suicide Room’ – both given the lower rating of 15 in the UK – will also be dropped.
All six films are set to leave the streaming service on April 30 – so enjoy them while you can.
Newer LGBT films appearing on the service are notably tamer, such as Ben Whishaw drama ‘Lilting’.
The streaming service has been a pioneer in on-screen LGBT diversity in its own LGBT content – with Netflix originals Orange is the New Black, House of Cards, Sense8, Grace and Frankie and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt all featuring LGBT characters.
A report from GLAAD recently found that streaming services managed to include more LGBT characters its original content than all of primetime network TV put together.
The study found that American network television featured just 35 LGB series regulars out of 881 characters across 118 shows.
Online services Netflix, Hulu and Amazon trounced network television’s primetime representation, with 43 regular LGBT characters spread across just 23 original shows.
