Donald Trump wants Elton John to perform at his inauguration
The Republican frontrunner wants the legendary singer to help welcome him to The White House.
Despite the fact he is yet to officially secure the Republican nomination – yet alone become President – that hasn’t stopped Donald Trump planning his inauguration.
Although the idea of the controversial businessman becoming ‘leader of the free world’ may send a shiver down his critic’s spines, Trump is apparently keen for Sir Elton to help welcome him to the Oval Office, according to The Telegraph.
However, he may find winning the iconic singer round an almost impossible task, after he banned Trump – who celebrated his marriage to David Furnish in 2005 – for using his songs at his campaign rallies.
After Trump used Rocket Man and Tiny Dancer, Sir Elton’s publicist confirmed that permission had not been given.
“Elton’s music has not been requested for use in any official capacity by Donald Trump,” the publicist confirmed.
“Any use of his music should not be seen as an endorsement of Donald Trump by Elton.”
And Sir Elton is not the only musician unhappy with Trump’s use of their tracks.
Adele was forced to ban him from using her songs after he played Rolling in the Deep to warm up crowds at his rallies – but the singer’s reps quickly told him to stop.
A spokesperson confirmed the song’s use for the rallies was not permitted, saying: “Adele has not given permission for her music to be used for any political campaigning.”
In addition, country singer Neil Young demanded he stop using his music last year, while Aerosmith also put a stop to Trump using their music in October.
Trump – who swept to victory in five states last night – last week criticised a transphobic bathroom bill recently passed in North Carolina, by claiming it is bad for business.
The presidential candidate – who has repeatedly changed his stance on LGBT rights – also said he would let Caitlyn Jenner use whichever toilet she wanted to on a visit to Trump Tower, before branding trans-specific toilets “discriminatory”.
