New Zealand police investigate after man robbed by guy he met on Grindr
Police in New Zealand are investigating after a man said he was robbed by an assailant he met on Grindr.
The NZ Herald reports that a weapon may have been involved in the incident which is being investigated by Auckland City Police.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman told GayNZ that the incident “appears linked to a connection made between parties through the social network app, Grindr”.
There have been a number of assaults and robberies using dating apps such as Grindr which have taken place since early 2015.
Newman said that people who use such apps should be careful not to put themselves in danger, saying people should meet in public places, and should possibly take company when they meet up for the first time.
“It’s important to plan ahead and be careful. Always tells a friend where you are going and who you are meeting up with, and ensure they have your contact details,” he said.
In the UK earlier this month a man was accused of strangling and dismembering a police officer he met on a gay dating app.
