Beyonce just told police who voted to boycott her concerts what she really thinks of them
Beyonce has done something brilliant in response to the police who voted to boycott her concerts earlier this year, calling her “anti-police”.
The Lemonade singer was the subject of a vote by the Miami Fraternal Order of Police which voted to boycott her concert. As well as calling her “anti-police”, the union said Beyonce’s Superbowl performance was used to “divide Americans”.
Not only that, Javier Ortiz, the president of the Order, wrote a statement encouraging police across the US to do the same.
But apparently seeing the funny side, Bey tweeted a number of pictures of her merchandise stand, which included t-shirts reading “boycott Beyonce”.
Earlier this month, speaking to Elle magazine, Beyonce made her position on police clear.
She said: “I’m an artist and I think the most powerful art is usually misunderstood. But anyone who perceives my message as anti-police is completely mistaken. I have so much admiration and respect for officers and the families of officers who sacrifice themselves to keep us safe.
“But let’s be clear: I am against police brutality and injustice. Those are two separate things. If celebrating my roots and culture during Black History Month made anyone uncomfortable, those feelings were there long before a video and long before me. I’m proud of what we created and I’m proud to be a part of a conversation that is pushing things forward in a positive way.”
Statements from police also said that Beyonce’s concerts in the area would be fully staffed by police, as is normal for large spectacles.
Rapper Azealia Banks earlier this week attacked Beyonce over her new album ‘Lemonade’ calling her “anti-feminist”, a “poacher” and a “thief”.
The 212 star took to Twitter and Periscope to criticise Beyonce over her new release, which she unveiled on HBO late last week.
Meanwhile, a police officer from Detroit is to be investigated for comparing Beyoncé’s Superbowl halftime dancers to the Ku Klux Klan.
It contained a photo of the dancers, and below, a picture of KKK members in white hoods.
During the performance, which also featured Bruno Mars and Chris Martin of Coldplay, Beyonce’s backing dancers were dressed in all black, sporting naturally styled afro hair. The dancers’ outfits have been taken as a tribute to the Black Panther Party.
