For the second time in as many days, a member of the Graham family has made a shockingly offensive comment about gays and 9/11.

Anne Graham Lotz, the daughter of evangelical pastor Billy Graham, this week appeared to suggest that God let 9/11 happen because heā€™s too upset about transgender people.

Ms Graham suggested that trans rights was one of the issues that forced God to ā€œabandonā€ the US, adding of Godā€™s unwillingness to protect America: ā€œI think thatā€™s why God allows bad things to happen. I think thatā€™d why he would allow 9/11 to happen.ā€

But now her bigger badder brother Franklin Graham, the head of shoebox appeal charity Samaritanā€™s Purse, has joined his sister in making a sinister 9/11 comparison.

Mr Graham told Fox News pundit Todd Starnes: ā€œThe country is imploding. We are seeing a moral implosion. Just like we saw the World Trade Center on 9/11 when the planes hit the tower, they imploded, they fell from within, and this is whatā€™s happening to our country, weā€™re falling within.

ā€œOur foundations have been weakened by immorality and itā€™s beginning to crumble.ā€

ā€œI want the school boards of America in the hands of evangelical Christians within the next four to six years.

ā€œAnd it can happen and that will have a huge impact because so many school districts now are controlled by wicked, evil people, and the gays and lesbians, and I keep bringing their name up, but they are at the forefront of this attack against Christianity in America.ā€

Mr Graham has previously accused Obama of spreading ā€˜immoralityā€™ and ā€˜sinā€™, while praising Russiaā€™s Vladimir Putin for instituting a ban on ā€˜gay propagandaā€™.

In a recent interview with a Russian newspaper, Graham praised Vladimir Putinā€™s support for anti-gay laws ā€“ and claimed that homosexuals ā€œtake peopleā€™s childrenā€.

Repeating disturbing rhetoric often used by anti-LGBT vigilantes in Russia, he said: ā€œHomosexuals cannot have children, they can take other peopleā€™s children.ā€
