Ruth Davidson announces engagement to long-term girlfriend on Twitter
The Scottish Conservative leader has announced her engagement to partner Jennifer Wilson.
Ruth Davidson has shared her joy, after she proposed to her long-term girlfriend over the weekend – and she accepted!
The politician shared the happy news on Twitter this morning, after the pair enjoyed a romantic weekend in Paris together.
She posted a picture of an engagement ring with the caption: “So, I’ve been away for a few days as I had an important question to ask.
“Delighted Jen said Yes. Very happy.”
The couple have been congratulated on Twitter by well-wishers, politicians and celebrities including the Prime Minister and the First Minister of Scotland.
Many congratulations to @RuthDavidsonMSP and Jen on their engagement. I’m delighted for them.

In the run to the recent Scottish elections, Ms Davidson revealed a big election night secret exclusively to PinkNews.
“I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say this actually,” she said.
“I fought a by-election a long time ago and as a joke, my then partner bought me a pair of pants that had ‘election night’ on the back, written in Tory blue rhinestones.
“She wanted me to wear them on election night, which I did and have since worn at the count of most of the other elections I have stood in.
“That is an absolute exclusive for PinkNews, my rhinestone pants.”
Ms Davidson stood for the Conservatives in the Glasgow North East by-election in 2009 before becoming an MSP in 2011.
She was elected party leader in 2014 and became the official leader of the opposition at Holyrood earlier this month after winning 31 seats in the Scottish elections – it seems the rhinestone pants may have eventually paid off…
Last year, Davidson admitted in a BBC Radio Scotland interview that she didn’t want to be gay and struggled to reconcile her faith and sexuality.
