Lilly Wachowski pulls out of Sense8 season 2, leaving sister Lana to run the show alone
The Netflix show is facing a major changes for season two, with co-creator Lilly Wachowski dropping out.
Lilly will now turn over creative control of the Netflix science fiction drama to sister Lana – who developed the sci-fi series along with her sibling and J Michael Straczynski.
“Lilly needed to take some time off”, star Jamie Clayton told BuzzFeed.
However, she said she could possibly return should Netflix order a third season.
Despite her sister’s exit, Clayton later stressed that Sense8 remains in safe hands with Lana Wachowski at the helm.
“Lana is absolutely a superwoman,” she declared.
“The way she channels her energy and her creativity – it keeps me in absolute awe whenever I’m in her presence. She’s an absolute force.”
This will be the first major project that the Wachowskis have separated on since they rose to fame in the 1990s.
Earlier this year, Lilly was widely hailed for her bravery after making her first public appearance since coming out at the GLAAD Media Awards.
The Matrix director came out earlier this year, after claiming she was pressured into publicly discussing her transition by the Daily Mail.
Lana transitioned in 2000 and made it public in 2012, when she became an advocate for trans awareness and opened up about the difficulties she faced in the process.
Netflix announced plans to make a second series of Sense8 last year.
The show features Aml Ameen, Bae Doona, trans actress Clayton, Tina Desai, Tuppence Middleton, Max Riemelt, Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Brian J Smith.
It also features former Doctor Who actress Freema Agyeman as the lesbian partner of Clayton’s character.
