Dolly Parton laughs off lesbian rumours as she renews wedding vows
Dolly Parton has finally put the lesbian rumours to rest.
Speculation over the 70 year old’s romantic relationship with her best friend, Judy Ogle, rose because her husband stayed out of the limelight of fame. Many critics even questioned if Dean existed.
The 70-year-old was renewing her vows with her husband, Carl Thomas Dean, on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mrs Parton said: “I’m not gay. If I was gay, I would have come out of the closet just a-flying.”
The singer-songwriter has known her best friend since they were in third grade.
She added: “We still just have a great friendship and relationship and I love her as much as I love anybody in the whole world, but we’re not romantically involved.”
Dolly’s mother, Avie Lee, the couple’s minister and the minister’s wife (who were all at the first wedding) made up the wedding party for the renewal.
The country and western singer celebrated her golden anniversary with her husband in style with a big dress and lots of pictures – a far throw from how their first wedding went down.
Mrs Parton said to People: “I’ll have a beautiful wedding dress, ’cause I didn’t have a big, long wedding dress when we got married and we’ve got a suit for him, so we’re going to dress up and take a bunch of pictures.”
To help benefit her charity, Imagine Library, Parton intends on selling the celebratory anniversary photos.
The couple who met in front of a laundromat in 1964, will be displaying the dress and suit from the wedding at Chasing Rainbows Museum at Dollywood in Tennessee.
Recently, Dolly Parton announced she would still go to North Carolina despite a lot of other performers deciding to boycott the state.
