New Dishonoured game will have gay and bi characters
Dishonoured 2 is to include LGBT characters.
In an interview with Game Informer, co-creative director Harvey Smith confirmed the game will have gay and bi characters.
“We wanted to have more representation this time,” he said.
“We’ve tried to put more people into key roles who are people of color and to be more reflective of how the world works and to be less homogeneous.
“We have at least a few characters who, if you dig into them, you realise that they’re not straight. That said it’s a quick paced action game or a slow paced stealth game where those things are secondary.
“When we handle something like that, we’d like to have it in the world, and not draw a big sign around it that says, ‘this guy is gay’.
“There is a gay character, there’s a bi character. We’re better in representation in that sense.”
Set in the fictional city of Dunwall, the game follows protagonist Emily, who becomes a supernatural assassin attempting to get her power back as a former Empress.
Many fans have already praised the game for having a non-sexualised female protagonist, while other fans are happy to have a short-haired, tough female character in the lead role.
On previous theories, that Emily is a lesbian for her lack of interest in men, Smith said: “I don’t think we come down strongly one way or another about Emily’s sexuality.
“But once we were aware that people care about that, I also tried not to do anything that precluded their interpretation of the character.”
Dishonored 2 will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on November 11.
Recently, a video game received an “extreme’ reaction for forcing half of its players to be women.
More and more games are now including LGBT characters. The long awaited sequel to RollerCoaster Tycoon, which is due for release this month, said in February that the games will include LGBT families.
