Australia gets world’s first luxury wedding magazine for gay men
Despite not yet having marriage equality, Australia has become the first country in the world to get a luxury wedding magazine – exclusively for gay men.
Groom and Guy is believed to be the world’s first gay weddings magazine and has been launched by Matty Bulger and his partner, Tony Smith.
The Melbourne couple, who described it as “Australia and New Zealand’s first and only luxury wedding resource”, plan to make it available online and in print.
They said it will include more than just stories about how to have the ideal wedding, and will also feature sections on style, travel, honeymoons and food.
“G+G is inspiration for not only your special day but also for your everyday life – from how to entertain, to what to wear and everything in between,” they said.
“In no way, shape or form is there anything presently available that is comparable to what G+G is or what it achieves. We are the benchmark, and we have set it pretty high (apologies in advance to our future competitors).
“G+G has been created so that you have the most definitive collection of ideas, suppliers and real life stories at your fingertips.”
The launch of the magazine comes despite same-sex marraige not yet being legal in Australia. Recently, Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, said he believed that a public vote on the issue would take place before the end of the year.
Despite this, both Matty and Tony said that couple were still wanting to create “something special”
They said: “Couples continue to make the decision to create something truly special to mark their love and respect for one another, even if it isn’t binding in the eyes of the law, and we are here to showcase and support that decision.”
The Daily Mail reports that volume one of the magazine will be available throughout Australia and New Zealand in November, 2016.
The print edition costs $14.95 (£7.50, US$10.82) and a subscription will be $28.40 (£14.25, US$20.56).
Experts have already argued that introducing marriage equality Down Under will help the economy.
