Alyson Hannigan cast in ‘First Wives Club’ remake
The first two stars of the ‘First Wives Club’ TV adaptation have just been cast.
TV Land, the network behind the remake of the cult 90s classic, has announced that ‘How I met your Mother’ star Alyson Hannigan and ‘Smash’s’ Megan Hilty will be taking on two of the roles – originally played by Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.
According to Deadline, the adaptation is set in San Francisco and involves three women who went to university together in the 90s.
A freak accident that kills a friend, drives the three back together. When they discover their relationships are all in a mess, they set out to help each other – just like in the movie.
Alyson and Megan are to play two of the three leads, taking on similar characters portrayed by Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton.
Maggie is an English professor played by Alyson. She is intelligent, but frustrated by a failing marriage. The death of her friend pushes her to leave her husband and start a new adventure.
Megan will play a character similar to the one played by Goldie Hawn. Once a very successful Hollywood actress, she is now considered past her prime. Although she is reduced to filming low budget adverts, she still hopes that breakout role is just waiting in the wings.
Although Alyson Hannigan is known from her days on ‘How I met your Mother’, fans may also recognise her from ‘American Pie’ or as the lesbian witch from ‘Buffy: The Vampire Slayer’.
‘First Wives Club’ was released in 1996 and has since become a favourite among LGBT fans.
Netflix announced last year that is was bringing back Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn and Diane Keaton for a new film.
