Angelina Jolie to host Woman’s Hour
Hollywood royalty, Angelina Jolie-Pitt, will examine sexual violence in conflict on a BBC radio show.
The star is just one of five guest editors, alongside the Great British Bake Off’s Mary Berry, to take over Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.
Angelina, who is a United Nations Special Envoy, is scheduled to host the final show on June 17 and will also discuss women’s health on one hour slot.
Speaking of her chance to host show, baking legend, Mary Berry, said: “I have chosen subjects close to my heart. I still have my cooking badge and wonder how guiding has changed from my day.
“Gardening as therapy – after a busy day recipe testing or filming inside, I cannot wait to get into the garden. And I’m thinking of keeping bees.”
Mary has said she will discuss a range of topics including the Girl Guides, homemade presents and handwritten notes.
Last month, Angelina was appointed a visiting professor by the London School of Economics and is likely to present one lecture a year for a new course at the institution. She was also made a honorary Dame in 2012, for her work on sexual violence in warzones.
Other guest editors on the show will be Jackie Kay, Scotland’s Makar (poet laureate), who will look at the refugee crisis and English footballer, Eniola Aluko, who will explore how sports can help girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Now in it’s third year, the original takeover series involved Harry Potter author, JK Rowling, and Baroness Lawrence, who fought for justice after the murder of her son, Stephen.
The daily magazine programme is presented by Jane Garvey and Jenni Murray.
