Donald Trump suggests President Obama could be complicit in Orlando shooting
Donald Trump has suggested that President Obama might know “better than anyone understands” about the Orlando massacre.
50 people were killed and 53 injured yesterday in the shocking terrorist hate crime attack, which saw a gunman open fire inside The Pulse gay bar in Orlando, Florida.
ISIS has since claimed responsibility for the attack, which was perpetrated by US citizen Omar Mateen. The majority of the victims were Latino.
In his statement, President Obama mourned the victims of the homophobic hate crime attack and called for greater restrictions on arms sales.
In response, Republican nominee Donald Trump said Obama should resign for failing to rally against Islam in his comments.
In a long Fox News interview today, Trump has taken the claim even further, suggesting that Obama perhaps knows what’s going on “better than anyone understands”.
Trump said: “He doesn’t get it or he gets it better than anyone understands, and either one is unacceptable.
“We’re allowing thousands of people into the country, this could be the all-time great Trojan Horse. This could be it.”
He added later on: “We’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart – or he’s got something else in mind.
“And the something else in mind… you know, people can’t believe it.
“People cannot, they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism’.
“There’s something going on. It’s inconceivable. There’s something going on.”
He also claimed the LGBT community would turn on Obama, saying: “I think you’re going to see tremendous pressure now on these politicians.”
Challenged about his comments in a further interview with Today, he doubled down on the claim.
He said: “There are a lot of people that think maybe he doesn’t want to get it.
“A lot of people think maybe he doesn’t want to know about it. I happen to think that he just doesn’t know what he’s doing, but there are many people that think maybe he doesn’t want to get it. He doesn’t want to see what’s really happening.”
He also re-affirmed his call to ban Muslims from travelling to the United States, after previously appearing to soften the controversial claim.
