Is Game of Thrones about to get a lesbian queen power couple?
Warning: Spoilers for episode 9 of Game of Thrones Season 6.
A high-profile romance could be on the cards for two Game of Thrones characters.
The popular HBO series has featured a number of gay characters in the past, with a doomed romance between late King Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony) and gay knight Loras Tyrell (Finn Jones)
The show recently re-introduced Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan), who holds a claim to the throne of the Iron Islands – and firmly established her interest in women in a passionate scene earlier this month.
The character is seen getting hot and heavy with a woman, telling her brother: “Since it’s my last night ashore for a long while, I’m gonna go f**k the tits off this one.”
However, fans are hopeful that a big romance could be on the cards for Greyjoy, after the character’s sizzling introduction to Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).
In the scene, the two prospective Queens flirt as they form an alliance, while discussing a rather vulgar marriage proposal from Greyjoy’s uncle.

Daenerys quips: “And I imagine your offer is free of any marriage demands?”
Yara shoots back: “I never demand… but I’m up for anything, really”.
While a royal same-sex union might be a bit much for Game of Thrones fans, the prospect of the romance is not too far-fetched given elements of the original novels.
In the books, Daenerys Targaryen is explicitly portrayed as bisexual, having intimate flings with her handmaidens as well as male romances.
Reacting to the latest episode, Emila Clarke said: “There’s a mild flirtation, which is exciting to say the least… get rid of [male lover] Daario, and bring on the ladies!”

Fans of the show reacted proportionately.
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark on the series, also says she wants her character to be bisexual.
Asked who her character should be end up with, she said: “Judging by Sansa’s relationship with Margaery… probably Margaery.
“Or [sister] Arya because I’d like to see that happen… I’d love a love scene between Arya and Sansa.”
