Trump meets with anti-gay group, one week after claiming to be ‘friend of gays’
Republican Presidential hopeful Donald Trump will meet with the anti-LGBT American Family Association, a week on from claiming to be a ‘friend of gays’.
The presumptive Republican Presidential nominee has recently opposed transgender rights, pledged to appoint justices to repeal equal marriage, and come out against federal anti-discrimination protections.
But Trump – who claimed in a speech this week after the Orlando massacre that a victory for Hillary Clinton would lead to the mass murder of gay people across the US – has claimed recently that he is a “friend” of the LGBT community.
Asking a rhetorical question in an interview last week, he had said: “You tell me: who is better for the gay community and who is better for women than Donald Trump?”
He seemed to answer his own question this week… by meeting with the anti-LGBT American Family Association’s President Tim Wildmon this week.
The AFA is behind a high-profile boycott of superstore Target over its transgender-friendly bathroom policy.
The group recently exploited the Orlando massacre to drive support of its boycott, claiming that in the wake of the shooting, claiming that the “senseless violence and loss of life” in the gay club somehow proves that Target’s trans friendliness is a “danger to women and children”.
Tim Wildmon confirmed in a mailout: “I have accepted an invitation to meet tomorrow (Tuesday) with presidential candidate Donald Trump in New York.
“Along with other pro-family, Christian leaders, we have a great opportunity to communicate our values to Mr. Trump to make sure our voices and positions are heard.
“I would appreciate your prayers, asking God to give me the opportunity to share our Christian position on life, marriage, religious liberty and national security with Mr. Trump.
“This is not an endorsement of the candidate, but a sincere effort to let him know that America can only be great again if government returns to the Biblical values held by our nation’s founders.”
Thanks to the group’s actions, a string of protesters have taken to disrupting Target stores directly – with one woman waved a Bible while warning customers “the devil will rape your children”, while a man spoke out against homosexual “abominations”.
AFA’s resident radio host Bryan Fischer is notoriously homophobic – blaming gay people for the Holocaust and claiming that freedom of religion only applies to Christians.
Fischer, who has previously called for homosexuality to be re-criminalised, insists that “Hitler himself was an active homosexual” and gays were “at the heart” of the Nazi party.
He insists: “Hitler recruited around him homosexuals to make up his Stormtroopers, they were his enforcers, they were his thugs.
“Hitler discovered that he could not get straight soldiers to be savage and brutal and vicious enough to carry out his orders, but that homosexual soldiers basically had no limits and the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict on whomever Hitler sent them after. So he surrounded himself, virtually all of the Stormtroopers, the Browshirts, were male homosexuals.”
