Republicans claim Trump would be better for LGBT community than Clinton
Donald Trump once again attempts to win over LGBT voters.
“Ask the gays,” Trump said during a rally last week, “what they think and what they do in, not only Saudi Arabia, but many of these countries, and then you tell me – who’s your friend, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?”
The predidential wannabe made the commets – which were ridiculed by many – after saying he believes his anti-terror policies, or more accurately anti-Muslim policies, will protect and support the LGBT community.
Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization, told reporters he agrees with Trump.
“What he is saying,” Perkins said, “is no American, regardless of political ideology or your life choices, should be living under threat of terrorist attack in the streets of the United States of America.
“So yes, LGBT, Catholic, Protestant, I don’t care, atheist – as one who wore the uniform of a United States Marine and as a police officer, no American, no American should live in fear and that’s exactly what Donald Trump is saying.”
However, these claims may surprise many. Until recently, Trump was an active critic of the LGBT community.
Earlier this year, he vowed to overturn the US Supreme Court’s landmark decision on same-sex marriage.
In cotrast, his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, has made 24 sweeping pledges across LGBT policy areas, promising to continue the fight for LGBT equaity across the US if elected.
