Terence Koh is transmitting the names of Orlando victims into outer space
Conceptual artist is going to broadcast the victims’ names into outer space by reading them into a supersonic microphone, the Observer reports.
The performance, named ‘chanting ceremony’, will take place outside New York’s Andrew Edlin Gallery in Manhattan this evening. The microphone will transmit sound into space via an antenna installed outside the gallery.
Following the ceremony, six films will be screened, including John Waters’ Pink Flamingos and David Wojnarowicz’s Beautiful People.
A light projection will also be shown, followed by the works of queer art luminaries Parvez Sharma, Bruce laBruce, Jack Smith, and Wakefield Poole.

Earlier in June, a gunman stormed the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, a gay club, and shot dead 49 people. A further 53 were injured in the attack, which became the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

Meanwhile, the London Gay Men’s Chorus have released a full cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ for victims of the Orlando shooting.
The choir performed the cover at a vigil held in Soho last week. Proceeds from the song are to be split equally between the Pulse Victims Fund and Galop, a London-based charity that works to reduce LGBT hate crime in the UK.
Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy has declared that “our children are gay and God is gay” – in a poem also released in tribute to Orlando victims.
