FBI and police investigate as trans man brutally assaulted after Orlando victims fundraiser
The FBI is working with Seattle Police after a trans man was brutally beaten after a fundraising event for the victims of the Orlando gay club mass shooting.
The Associated Press reports that the man was punched in the face on Wednesday night by an attacker.
The man was attacked at Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighbourhood by an assailant who shouted “Hey, Happy Pride” before carrying out the attack.
After punching the victim in the face, the attacker also grabbed him by the throat, beat him further, and left him unconscious.
The victim drove home after coming to, and a friend later drove him to hospital and called the police.
Speaking to the AP, Seattle Police Chief Kathleen O’Toole described the incident as a “hateful attack”.
The police department is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information in finding the attacker.
The man who carried out the assault is described as a white man in his 20s.
The horrific massacre at Pulse nightclub, which left 49 people dead and 53 injured, was carried out with legally-bought assault weapons.
