TV presenters Jan Versteegh and Tim Hofman are hoping to fight homophobia by kissing and getting intimate for a magazine shoot – but they aren’t actually gay.

The pair, both hosts on Dutch broadcasting association BNN, are featuring in the June issue of L’Homo magazine.

The idea behind the shoot is to challenge perceptions of masculinity and sexuality and to start a discussion on what homosexuality is.

“I think we have done this for more open discussion of [homosexuality] than we necessarily want to be in a sheet with our bare ass,” says Hofman. “That’s nice, but secondary.”

“I hope we can show people that [it’s] just two men on a picture,” Versteegh adds.

Earlier this year, Dutch MPs backed a motion calling for the establishment of a centre for gay refugees, separated from the main refugee population.

The motion was submitted by the progressive Democrats 66 party in the country’s Parliament, after repeated reports warned that LGBT people are facing a shocking number of attacks in asylums and refugee centres across Europe.

Concerns have been raised about a number of homophobic and transphobic incidents in cases where LGBT people – many of whom have fled execution or persecution – are targeted by other refugees.
