Frank Ocean announces new album ‘Boys Don’t Cry’ to be released this month
Frank Ocean appears to have announced that his long-awaited follow-up album Boys Don’t Cry will be released later this month.
Ocean – who previously discussed his relationship with other men on his debut album Channel Orange – in his typical style posted a cryptic message on his website appearing to announce that the new album is on its way.
The update came last night with a due date card which are normally seen in library books.
The announcement includes a small amount of humour as as well as the latest stamp ‘July 2016’, other rumoured release dates are also stamped.
Given that the card has run out of room, it seems to indicate that Boys Don’t Cry will be with us some time this month.
Some had speculated that Ocean had given up music in order to become a nurse or doctor as he was pictured wearing medical scrubs – it was later revealed, however; that he was dressed that way for his Thinking Bout You video from 2011.
Ocean was rumoured to have had a listening party in New York back in February for Boys Don’t Cry, and some SoundCloud clips uploaded apparently included segments from his unreleased tracks.
A follow up to his critically acclaimed 2012 Channel Orange has been much awaited.
Ocean spoke for many earlier this year, after writing a eulogy for the late singer Prince and later posted a tribute to those lost in the Orlando Pulse mass shooting which left 49 dead and 53 injured.
Kanye West last year spoke out in support of Frank Ocean for combatting homophobia in the music industry.
The rapper voiced his support of Ocean, who he believes ”broke ground” in the genre by discussing his past relationship with a man back in 2012.
