The diver told his mum about his relationship with Dustin Lance Black during a birthday celebration to which heā€™d invited his new boyfriend.

ā€œMy mum had no idea. It was just a random conversation. We were having a barbecue at my house, Lance was making burgers and I was in the kitchen,ā€ Daley told The Times.

ā€œI said to Mum, ā€˜What do you think of Lance?ā€™ And she said, ā€˜Yeah, heā€™s great. He makes great burgers.ā€™ So I told her I was in a relationship with him.

ā€œShe said, ā€˜Like a gay relationship?ā€™ And I said, ā€˜Yeahā€™. And she said, ā€˜Ohā€¦ all rightā€™.

ā€œShe had no idea, despite the fact Iā€™d brought this guy home for the weekend. I was lucky. It was so easy, and you hear some horror stories.ā€

ā€œYou always think it is going to be the worst thing in the world to tell someone,ā€ he added. ā€œBut that put it into perspective.ā€

Daley went on to reveal that Lance Black ā€“ who he is now engaged to ā€“ is the real reason he is still diving, before sharing his excitement over the upcoming Rio Olympics.

ā€œLance is the reason I am still diving,ā€ he said.

ā€œIn March 2013 I was at my all-time low and didnā€™t want to do it any more. Then I met him and thought, ā€˜This guy wonā€™t want to be with me unless Iā€™m successful at what I do.ā€™

ā€œI felt happy all of a sudden. Nothing seemed confusing any more. He is a massive, massive support for me.

ā€œIā€™m really excited now that the Olympics are close. That final is a scary thought,ā€ he shared.
