Marco Rubio confronted by Orlando protester: ‘You have blood on your hands’
A protester has confronted Senator Marco Rubio during a visit to Orlando, saying “you have blood on your hands”.
David Thomas Moran, who was one of ten people arrested last week at a protest which lasted 49 hours in honour of the 49 people killed in the Orlando Pulse Massacre, confronted the Senator at a press conference.
Dozens met at the former presidential hopeful’s office on the one-month anniversary of the massacre to honor the victims in a 49-hour sit-in.
He entered the press conference as Rubio was giving a statement about how businesses in Orlando had been affected by the mass hate shooting.
Moran said: “I’m really angry with you.”
Adding: “I don’t feel like you’re doing anything to support the queer Latinx community that has been so devastated by this, the LGBTQ+ community. I need to know what is your relationship with the [National Rifle Association]. Why are you talking to transphobes and homophobes? … All of you have blood on your hands.”
Sen. Marco Rubio was caught off guard Tuesday while speaking at a press conference in Orlando about how businesses in the city were affected by the Pulse shooting when someone from the crowd interrupted, saying, “I’m really angry with you.”
Rubio responds: “I disagree with your assessment. Homophobia means you’re scared of people. I’m not scared of people. Quite frankly I respect all people. We probably have a disagreement on the definition of marriage.”
But Moran added: “Your policies kill people. Your policies enable people to be murdered. You have to protect us. You’re not protecting us. We’re going to be killed. We’re going to be gunned down like what just happened at this club over here You have blood on your hands. You can’t deny it.”
According to reports, Rubio told Moran that he had “nothing to do with the arrests” because he was in Washington DC when the sit-in happened.
