My Little Pony used to defend Trump’s wife Melania from plagiarism claims
Senior Republicans have resorted to quoting My Little Pony to defend Donald Trump’s wife from accusations of plagiarism.
Melania Trump, the third wife of GOP Presidential hopeful Donald Trump, was accused of stealing parts of a speech she delivered at the Republican National Convention.
Commentators noticed a similarity to the speech delivered by now-First Lady Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention in 2008.
Some elements of the two speeches appeared word-for-word identical, with side-by-side videos showing the uncanny similarity between the women’s words.
As the Trumps are refusing to acknowledge that any form of plagiarism took place, top Republicans have been reaching for increasingly far-fetched defences to explain away the incident.
The top prize must surely go to Republican communications director Sean Spicer – who is using My Little Pony to divert the accusations.
Trying to play down the similarity between the speeches, he said: “When it comes to the speech, let’s put this in perspective. We’re talking about 70 words, three passages.
“Melania Trump said, “The only limit to your achievements is the strength of your dreams and your willingness to work for them.”.
“Twilight Sparkle from My Little Pony said “This is your dream, anything you can do in your dreams you can do now.”
“I mean, if we want to take a bunch of phrases and run them through Google and say, who else has said them, I could come up with a list in five minutes.
“And that’s what this is… it’s sad we have taken this amazing moment and allowed the Clinton campaign to Google them and come up with three phrases that Mrs Obama said.”
The Twilight Sparkle quote comes from an episode of ‘My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic’ that is literally about dreams, titled ‘Do Princesses Dream of Magic Sheep?’.
In the show, the pony is informing her friends that they have lucid dreaming-like powers to alter reality inside their own imagination.
This does not appear to be what Mrs Trump was suggesting… though honestly we’re not quite sure.
