This trans collective slayed Beyoncé’s ‘Lemonade’ (WATCH)
A group of trans artists recreated Beyoncé’s visual album ‘Lemonade’, and it might just be better than the original.
Last week, trans collective The Glass Wing Group released a remake of Beyoncé’s latest work of musical art – ‘Lemonade’.
The video, titled “Lemonade Served Bitter Sweet”, features Miss Shalae, a Beyoncé impersonator and performer from Los Angeles, imitating the singer and reimagining the visuals for “Hold Up”, “Freedom”, “Sorry” and “Six Inch”.
Despite the video’s high production value, amazing lip syncing, and Beyoncé-worthy choreography, the trans performer claims the 11-minute project was shot in just 16 hours.
The video, that has nearly 80,000 views on Facebook, is The Glass Wing Group’s first production.
Miss Shalae said she has been “super inspired” by Beyoncé since her landmark – yet controversial – Super Bowl performance and release of the song “Formation”.
She also commented on the reported 22 trans-women of color murdered in the US last year, and the motivation she has for making the hatred stop.
“There are youth trans-women out in the world with no direction, homeless, and trying to find a way to survive,” Miss Shalae said.
“I used to perform whatever music spoke to me but since my transition I’ve been sticking with Beyonce because I resemble her and love everything she does as an artist. She is an all around true inspiration.”
It is unclear whether Beyoncé has seen the video yet, but Miss Shalae hopes the look-alike artists could one day come together to “eliminate the hate between cisgender women and trans-women.
Above all, she said the video was a way to demonstrate to people “that we as trans women are here and talented” – and they’ve certainly gotten their point across.
“Lemonade Served Bitter Sweet” was produced by Adisa Steele and Miss Shalae and was shot and edited by Q Burdette.
