This important trans bathroom ad will play as Trump accepts the Republican nomination (VIDEO)
A commercial which pushes for better legal protections for LGBT+ people will air as Donald Trump officially accepts the Republican nomination for President.
The advert will play during Fox News’ primetime coverage of the Republican National Convention.
It is created by the Movement Advancement Project, and was funded by Fairness USA.
In it, a transgender woman talks about the issues faced by LGBT+ people in the US, and notes that many states do not have legal protections in place.
The woman, from North Carolina, the state in which the anti-LGBT HB2 was passed earlier this year, talks about issues faced, but also positively talks about her transition as a great move for her personally.
“It can be hard to understand what it means to be transgender, especially if you’ve never met a transgender person. In most states our laws don’t protect transgender people from discrimination in public places, or when it comes to using the restroom, something we all need to do every day,” the narrator says.
Directly addressing laws like HB2, which makes it illegal for many trans people to use a gender-appropriate bathroom, she says making her use male facilities “puts me at risk for harassment and violence.”
The aim of the ad’s placement is to raise awareness of LGBT+ issues when many who may not be familiar with gay, bi or trans people will be watching.
Not to mention that Trump has rarely commented positively on LGBT issues.
“We knew that airing the ad on Fox News during the Republican National Convention would be an incredible opportunity to spark a national conversation about the need to protect transgender people from discrimination,” Ineke Mushovic, executive director of the Movement Advancement Project told Slate.

Trump blasted Queen songs at the Republican National Convention; just days after unveiling an extreme anti-LGBT choice for Vice President.
The Presidential hopeful also awkwardly tried to kiss his VP running mate at Republican National Convention.
Trump recently appointed Indiana’s anti-LGBT Governor Mike Pence as his running mate. Pence stirred up international outrage last year when he signed the controversial ‘Religious Freedom Restoration Act’, which gives businesses the right to discriminate against gay people on the grounds of religion.
Governor Pence has previously suggested that HIV prevention funding be drained in order to fund state-sponsored ‘gay cure’ therapy, and earlier this year appeared unable to answer when asked whether it should be legal to fire people because of their sexuality.
