Police in Michigan investigate attack which left trans woman with bloodied face
Police in a town near Detroit are looking into an alleged attack on a trans woman at a bar.
Dearborn Police on Thursday they are investigating the attack on Courtney Purvis who said she was hit in the face ābecause I am transgenderā.
Purvis said she was attacked in a video posted to Facebook in which she shows blood on her face and a split lip.
In the video she says: āThey treated me like I did something wrongā¦ Iāve been attacked. Trans lives matter, too ā¦ And I donāt understand why they attacked me like this.ā
According to police, Purvis said a customer at the bar, a woman, made comments about her, which caused an argument.
āManagement escorted all parties out of the bar and once outside the victim states she was stabbed in the back and struck in the face with a bottle,ā police said in a statement.
The victim was treated in hospital for her injuries, police said.
Lieutenant Gary Mann of Dearborn Police Department on Thursday said: āWeāre in the preliminary stages of the investigation right now.ā
But he added that police were struggling to contact Purvis for an interview.
