Samantha Fox opens up about same-sex relationship on Celebrity Big Brother
Singer and former glamour model Samantha Fox has opened up about her same-sex relationship with her late manager Myra Stratton.
Speaking on Celebrity Big Brother yesterday, Fox told LBC presenter James Whale how she fell in love with Stratton.
She said: “Well, I was having relationships with guys then. It wasn’t until I met Myra, really, that I fell in love with a woman.
“I just believe that love is far greater than anything. You can’t help who you fall in love with.
“If you fall in love with somebody, you fall in love with them. You can’t help that can you.”
Fox in August confirmed that her partner of over a decade, Myra Stratton, had passed away.
The 1980s pin-up girl announced that her long-term girlfriend and manager has died this week, after a two-year battle with cancer.
A statement said: “It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Myra Stratton.
“She was Samantha Fox’s partner and manager for the last 16 years.
“She bravely fought cancer for the last two years but lost her battle on Sunday. Samantha asks for privacy as she grieves.”
Earlier this week Fox told the Sun that it was Stratton who convinced her to go on Big Brother.
“Myra wanted me to do this,” Samantha said to the paper. “We saw the producers two years ago when Myra got diagnosed.
“Before she died she told me she wanted me to do it.
“She said, ‘I think you’d be great — just go and do it. You’ll be really good Sammy, people don’t realise how witty you are and what fun you are.’”
Fox had only come out publicly back in 2003, when declaring her love for Stratton.
She said: “I have slept with other women but I’ve not been in love before Myra Stratton. People say I’m gay….I don’t know what I am.
“All I know is that I’m in love with Myra [Stratton, my manager]. I love her completely and want to spend the rest of my life with her.”
The pair later appeared together on an episode of Celebrity Wife Swap – with Samantha paired with Freddie Starr, and Myra his wife Donna.
A source told The Sun: “Sam is absolutely devastated. She adored and loved Myra and her loss has created a huge hole in her life.
“Myra was Sam’s manager but also her best friend and lover. It’s a huge loss for her.”
