Christopher Biggins has apologised for calling AIDS a ā€œbisexual diseaseā€ and for other comments which saw him removed from Celebrity Big Brother on Friday.

Producers had not revealed until last night what the comments were, but just said that the Channel 5 reality show ā€œdoes not tolerate offensive languageā€.

The 67-year-old had been the bookmakersā€™ favourite to win, despite earlier controversy this week when he said bisexual people were ā€œthe worst typeā€, suggesting that they just donā€™t want ā€œto admit they are gay.ā€

Details of the comments were released last night, during which he said: ā€œThere were a lot of bisexuals who went to [third world] countries and had sex with those people and brought it back to their own families in America, and thatā€™s how it became a worldwide disease.ā€

Later in the conversation Renee Graziano said a CIA agent had told her AIDS was invented to ā€œkill offā€ third-world countries, which Biggins said he could believe was also true.

Earlier in the week he had received a warning for a conversation he had with Katie Waissel during which he made a ā€œjokeā€ about the holocaust. Producers had decided not to air the conversation.

ā€œYou better be careful or theyā€™ll be putting you in a shower and taking you to a room,ā€ he said to her. He told the Sun newspaper that he had ā€œbeggedā€ her for forgiveness.

He told the paper: ā€œI found Katie and said ā€˜I am mortified. I would never do anything to upset you. I love you and Iā€™m really sorryā€™.

ā€œI am mortified by whatā€™s happened, really mortified. Most of my friends, in fact, are Jewish. I apologised to Big Brother and Katie.ā€

He added: ā€œI love Jewish people. Listen, my best friend is Lesley Joseph. You canā€™t get much more Jewish than that.

ā€œI have a lot of bisexual friends and Iā€™m not in any way a bigoted person. Iā€™m 67 and I love everybody. I live in Hackney and I have a lot of black neighbours who are fantastic.

ā€œItā€™s just not in my vocabulary that word. So to be chastised for those sorts of things is very sad.ā€

On Friday Biggins had the rules read to him in the diary room.

A producer said: ā€œThe rules regarding unacceptable language and behaviour were explained to you,ā€ he was told.

ā€œOn Monday, in a conversation with Katie, where she remarked she was not in the house to represent the Jewish community, your comment was plainly capable of causing offence to Katie and the viewing public.

ā€œYou have continued to use unacceptable language ā€¦ which is capable of causing offence ā€¦ do you have anything to say?ā€

Mr Biggins responded: ā€œIā€™m very sorry and Iā€™m very sad.ā€

A statement published on the CBB website reads that producers had ā€œtaken the decision to remove Christopher Bigginsā€.

ā€œSince entering Big Brother, he has made a number of comments capable of causing great offence to housemates and the viewing public,ā€ it said.

ā€œBig Brother does not tolerate offensive language capable of causing widespread offence.ā€

The Mirror claims that Biggins made a joke about concentration camps, which is the reason he has been removed.

Two others in the house have received formal warnings for their behaviour this week.

US singer Aubrey Oā€™Day spat in Stephen Bearā€™s sandwich and received a warning, while Bear also received a warning for throwing a mug and smashing a window.

This is not the first time Biggins has been criticised for his views on the LGBT community.

The entertainer ā€“ who has been in a civil partnership with Neil Sinclair since 2006 ā€“ opposed the introduction of equal marriage, claiming in 2012: ā€œIā€™m very anti-marriages, because I think that is for heterosexual couples. We canā€™t get rid of everythingā€.

He re-stated his opposition to same-sex marriage last year, claiming itā€™s ā€œa step too farā€.

Singer and former glamour model Samantha Fox opened up about her same-sex relationship with her late manager Myra Stratton during her time in the house.
