Will Young shimmies his way onto Strictly Come Dancing
The singer is the second contestant to announced for this year’s series of the popular BBC dance show.
Will Young has revealed that he will be taking part in this year’s Strictly Come Dancing – joining former Labour MP Ed Balls in the show’s line-up.
The singer tweeted that he was “so excited” after the news was revealed on the show’s Twitter account.
“As a fan of Strictly for years, I have always imagined myself on the show, but the timing has not been right… until now!” the Pop Idol winner said in a statement.
“Music is my passion and the dancing I have done has always been with a microphone in hand,” he added.
“Now there will be no microphone or band, just me, my partner and the dance floor.”
Young had previously teased his Twitter followers, telling them that today would be “exciting” and promised some “big news,” after a tumultuous year for the singer.
Earlier this year, he revealed that he had suffered from alcohol, sex, porn and shopping addictions whilst struggling to cope with the “shame” of his sexuality.
And just last month, Young revealed that he had parted ways with his record label.
Meanwhile, former Shadow Chancellor Balls says he is “scared to death” of taking part in Strictly.
“Our family have been massive fans of Strictly for years. I’ve taken the view that if you have a midlife crisis, make sure you plan it well and enjoy every minute.”
Earlier this year, BBC bosses said there were still ‘no plans’ for same-sex dance pairings on the show.
Strictly has featured same-sex dancing segments in group routines – but not in the main competition element of the show.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood previously confirmed changes will take place in the next two seasons to remove the gender rules – but later said the change was unlikely to happen.
