Why did the Olympic diving pool turn green?
Pictures of the water in the diving pool has led to a mass speculation as to the dramatic change in colour.
It was the question that dominated the diving events in Rio de Janeiro yesterday.
Why has the Olympic diving pool turned green?
Tom Daley – who won a bronze medal with Daniel Goodfellow earlier this week – shared an image of the pool on Twitter.
The image clearly shows the pool’s worrying shade of green – in stark comparison to the pristine water polo pool on the left.
“Ermmm…what happened?!” Daley wrote – but it seems he may have to wait for an answer.
A spokesman said water tests had been conducted and there was found to be “no risk whatsoever” to athletes.
However, he added that the cause of the colour change was still being investigated.
The pool continued to turn an even darker colour during the women’s synchronised diving finals at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre on Tuesday, leading to mass speculation online – and a host of ridiculous theories.
Meanwhile, British divers Daley and Goodfellow had plenty to celebrate after winning the bronze medal in the men’s synchronised 10m platform dives.
They scored a total of 444.45 points, finishing third behind China and the US.
The Olympics has also seen a lesbian rugby player get engaged and a married same-sex couple compete together for the first time.
