A new documentary claims to reveal that Cary Grant was bisexual and live with a male partner.

The documentary is based on costume designer Orry-Kellyā€™s autobiography Women Heā€™s Undressed, and claims to show that Kelly and Grant were lovers.

Kelly famously designed Marylin Monroeā€™s dress in Some Like It Hot.

Film historian William J Mann appears in the documentary to say that Hollywood was ā€œa city of bachelorsā€, adding: ā€œYou were surrounded by men who were openly living in ways you couldnā€™t imagine back homeā€¦ā€

According to the documentary, Grant made no secret of his gay affairs before he made it big in Hollywood.

The autobiography hinted at the relationship, but the documentary claims it as a certainty that the couple were together.

The writer of the documentary, Katherine Thompson, told the New York Post that the couple used to hit each other, saying: ā€œThe physical violence between the men was not uncommon between homosexual men of the period.ā€

Kelly wrote in his memoirs that Grant ā€œalways comes home to meā€, but according to the documentary his penchant for blonde women drove him crazy.

ā€œA combination of self-loathing and confusion was manifested in a punch-up or, on another occasion, Grant throwing Kelly out of a moving vehicle,ā€ Thompson added.

Grant famously sued comedian Chevy Chase for slander after the comic implied that he was gay.
