Cher to campaign with Hillary Clinton at LGBT events
Cher is the second gay icon to come out to campaign for Hillary Clinton this month.
The music legend and avowed Democrat, who has become notorious for her rather strong opposition to Donald Trump, is set to host a string of fundraiser events for her long-time friend Hillary Clinton.
Cher is set to host a Miami Beach LGBT fundraiser for Clinton on August 19 according to Politico, before jetting to Fire Island for a second fundraiser the next day. Cher and Clinton are both expected to be at a third LGBT event in Provincetown on August 21, which has already sold out.
The Fire Island fundraiser, listed on Clinton’s website as ‘Low Tea with special guest Cher’, costs $250 for a seat – or $1000 for a photo op with Cher.
Cher tweeted: “Going out 2give my support To HILL.BEEN WITH HER 4 LONG TIME…SEE HOW YOUNG WE LOOK. 2 [Dancing girls] IN PROVINCETOWN 21st AUG”
She follows in the footsteps of Barbra Streisand, who was also announced this week to be headlining LGBT fundraising events for Clinton.
It is unclear if either of the stars will also be joining Clinton at official rallies open to the public – but Clinton is clearly not afraid to use star power in her campaign.
Last month the Democratic National Convention released an a cappella cover of Rachel Platten’s Fight Song in honour of Clinton, masterminded by Pitch Perfect’s Elizabeth Banks and packed with heavyweight Hollywood and Broadway stars.
It featured dozens of music and theatrical legends (Sia, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Ellen Greene and Alan Cumming) as well as big acting names (Eva Longoria, Jane Fonda, Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson).
Neither Cher or Barbra appeared in the clip… but do we smell a future collaboration?
